Here's a few pics of my new White's Tree Frog, Gizmo. He's a little stressed at the moment so he's browner than when I first got him.
I'd also like a few bits of advice: I think his tank is probably a little too cold for him at the moment so I'm picking up a heat mat to put on the side of the tank tomorrow. I've put my bedside lamp (which heats up quite significantly) on behind the tank, so that it isn't too bright for him. I'm using a 12hour-on-12hour-off routine with a full spectrum light so now that it's 'night-time', I didn't want to ruin the routine by adding extra light. Like I said, I'll be getting a proper heat mat tomorrow but as a new mum I'm obviously worrying!
But also, he's not really eating. He ate a cricket while he was sat on my hand yesterday (when I first brought him home) but he wouldn't eat a second and he wouldn't eat the one I showed to him today. I'm worried about putting any in the tank in case they'll do him damage. Can I put a couple of crickets in with him or is that best avoided and will his appetite improve when the temperature gets more comfortable for him?
Thanks. Enjoy the pics!

How warm is it getting with the lamp?
You can wait a few days to feed him. You'll get better results letting them go in the cage. As long as you don't overfeed, he'll be fine. Put a piece of carrot in, and the crickets will eat that.
Stress and temp are the contributing factors for his appetite. Whites are pretty hardy though. Give him a few days to settle in, and he'll probably eat even if the temps aren't ideal. |
